It's that time of year again. Half of the MLB season is in the books, and the stars are set to align, this year at Citi Field in New York. The All-Star festivities include many awesome events like the Home Run Derby, the All-Star Futures Game, The All-Star Celebrity Softball Game, and then the main event, MLB All-Star Game.
On Sunday, the MLB All-Star Futures Game took place at Citi Field with the US taking a narrow 4-2 victory over the World team. Diamondbacks prospect Matt Davidson hit a two-run bomb, and was named MVP of the game. This game is always fun to watch, and with so much young talent that will soon become big league stars, it is an awesome event.
Tonight we have the MLB Home Run Derby that holds some big bats, and is bound to be entertaining. In my opinion, some of the National League Players shouldn't be in a Home Run Derby, but Captain David Wright has more of a say than I do. The American League bats include heavy-favorite Chris "Crush" Davis, Prince Fielder, Yoenis Cespedes, and Team Captain Robinson Cano. The National League squad includes the young phenom Bryce Harper, Michael Cuddyer, Pedro Alvarez, and Captain David Wright. As I said, Chris Davis is an overwhelming favorite, but my pick to win the home run derby is "El Toro", Pedro Alvarez. Alvarez has been a huge slugger for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and has been a big part of their contention in the NL Central. I see him coming away as champion.
Then there is the main event. The 2013 All-Star game is bound to be very exciting with a lot of big names, and star-studded line-ups. I think that the National League team will come away with the victory this year, as Matt Harvey is rumored to be starting this game, and with the starting line-ups, I see the National League as the better team. Look for Yadier Molina and Troy Tulowitzki to have huge games, and power this team passed the American League. It should be an exciting and very entertaining game, unlike last years, but I see the National League taking this one.
