Andrew Bynum Inks Deal With Cavs, 2 Years, $24 Million

Andrew Bynum agrees to deal with Cleveland
Andrew Bynum has agreed to a deal to become the newest member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bynum, who was part of a trade that sent him to Philadelphia, did not play a single minute in a Sixers jersey. This caused some concern for teams trying to sign him, but if healthy, and that is a big if, he is a top three center in the NBA.

Bynum was in negotiations with the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, and Cleveland. The other teams weren't exactly sure on signing him, but Dan Gilbert decided to take a risk on the 25-year-old star. Bynum was an NBA All-Star when he played with the Lakers, averaging 18.7 points, and just under 12 boards per game.

This deal isn't too risky for Cleveland, with only one year and six million guaranteed of this deal. The Cavs have a team option for the second year, and Bynum will have to reach certain incentives to gain the rest of his contract. I think if Bynum is healthy, the Cavaliers will definitely be a playoff team in a very weak Eastern Conference apart from the top four teams in the East (Heat, Pacers, Bulls, Knicks). Bynum could do something special with Kyrie Irving and the young talent that Cleveland has.

It will be nice to see Cleveland be competitive again since Lebron's departure. Is Bynum an asset to try to get Lebron to opt out of his Miami Heat deal next season to return to Cleveland? Nobody knows, but if healthy, a team with Kyrie Irving, Andrew Bynum, and a strong bench that adds Lebron James to the mix would be insanely hard to stop, and insanely fun to watch.
