Peyton Manning made his return to Indianapolis Sunday night, and it lived up to all of the hype. It was an emotional night for Peyton, who was returning to his former team's city for the first time in his Bronco's career. Peyton was honored before the game with a video tribute for all of his accomplishments in a Colts uniform. Manning was very emotional at the beginning of the game, stopping his warm-up routine to say thank you as the crowd gave him a well deserved standing ovation. The game was very closely contested as I had figured it would be, but I couldn't have imagined that Peyton would have been stopped the way he was in this game.
Peyton Manning has been having a ridiculous season, throwing for 25 touchdowns to only three interceptions through seven games. Manning was sharp, throwing for 386 yards and three scores in the loss, but he made some uncharacteristic mistakes, as he lost a fumble that went into the end zone for a safety, and he also threw a pick late in the game with the game on the line. Peyton Manning is a great NFL quarterback and in my opinion the absolute best there ever was, but if there was any game he really wanted to perform in and win, this was it.
Instead, on the other side of the ball Andrew Luck was able to be lights out. Luck didn't have insanely monstrous numbers, but his 228 yards and three scores were enough to lead Indy passed Denver. The big question mark now for the Colts is who will step up in the receiving core after Reggie Wayne went down with a torn ACL in the 4th quarter. It just breaks my heart to see such a hard-working and dedicated guy go down with an injury like that. The Colts will look to T.Y. Hilton and Darrius Heyward-Bey to step up in his absence.
